I remember these Russian KIAs in the basements. Back then negotiations between Ukraine and Russia were going, and Ukrainian military officials asked Russian military officials to keep this under the carpet because Ukrainian military will punish according to Ukrainian law those Ukrainian citizens who committed this crime without external help, showing its state is strong and able and defends justice, good and normalcy. And publicizing this crime could harm negotiations, and will harm catching those who did it. The global financial system is not a plaything for one or other geopolitical agenda. If we steal Russia’s savings - entrusted to European and American banks - it is not only wrong and criminal, but it risks bringing down the whole edifice of Western (and global) prosperity. It would be a catastrophic mistake on a once in a century scale; the kind of mistake that brings down empires.

There has been a change in narrative lately. It went from a bunch of orcs struggling to hold off awesome Ukrainians to a force that is supposedly threatening eastern fringes of nato.

There is technically a legal framework within (American) law to address the Bob vs Charlie debate. Let’s say Bob assaults Charlie and then Charlie sues Bob. Let’s say Charlie wins the court case and is awarded damages. The government can then legally take money away from Bob and award it to Charlie. When drawing parallels to the real life, if US makes the decision to transfer Russia’s money to Ukraine then it will be similar to a bank’s unilateral decision to transfer money to Charlie without Charlie needing to sue Bob and will damage the US’s reputation. So, the only way to legally justify taking money from Russia would be to do something like a vote on this in the UN. If the majority of countries agrees that the funds should be transferred then that would give a legally justifiable green light to transfer the money and it would also increase the credibility of the UN (which admittedly has been eroded almost into nothing). In order to prevent obvious conflicts of interest during the vote, Russia and countries that hold Russian assets shouldn’t be able to vote. I think this is the only way to do the transfer with minimal backlash

There is also another possibility besides the ongoing theory. We saw from footage that some of the units deployed in the north are very green. It is possible one of the objectives is to give new units a place to get experience in a less fortified and relatively weak section of the front.
